    Abstract:

The average normal force per diamond grain is analyzed by measuring the horizontal and vertical force components and the power in circular sawing of granite with segmented diamond blade. The influences of diamond protrusion beyond bond matrix and the presence of coolant slots on the actual normal force per grain are discussed. The results presented in this paper can serve as a useful guideline for the selection of optimal machining parameters and optimal design of diamond tools.
