    Abstract:

    Maintaining wellborestabilityinunconventionalgas wellsis muchimportanttotheexplorationand productionofnaturalgasincoalGbearingformationinthesouthwesternregionofGuizhouProvince.Thispaper investigatesthewellborefailuremechanismincoalandmudshaleformation,andfindsoutthatthetwokindsof wellborefailuremechanismsareessentiallydifferent.Inaddition,solutionsforwellboreinstabilityareinvestigated intermsofchemistry,mechanicsand mechanicscoupled withchemistry.Influenceof wellboreinstabilityon wellGradiusvariationsandcorerecoveryisanalyzedinthecontextofaCBM wellinZhinaCoalfield,leadingtothe findingthatwellboreenlargementisgreaterwithlowercorerecoveryoverthecoalGmudstonesection.Predicting accuratelytheformationpressuresofexploration wells,optimizingthedrillingfluidsystem anddensity,and choosingtherightdrillingtechniquescontributetoCBM wellborestabilityinthesouthwesternregionofGuizhou Province.
