This article introduces directional drilling technology used in the borehole WFSD-4 of Wenchuan Earthquake Fault Scientific Drilling, including directional hole design, whip stocking tool selection, tool orientation method, hole path control operation, and the use of wireless MWD and bottom hole assembly for directional drilling and sidetracking to bypass obstacles. The effect of directional drilling in WFSD-4 is analyzed.
