    • Research and Industrial Application of Drilling Technology of Ultra-deep Wells

      Abstract:Offshore oil and gas exploration is advancing to the ultra-deep structure field. For Sinopec, it is very common to encounter the complicated geological characteristics of complex pressure system, ancient sedimentary, HTHP, fluid toxicity and difficulties in engineering mechanics. In terms of drilling engineering, the technical problems exist in design optimization, high construction risk, slow drilling speed and quality control. In well drilling construction, long drilling period, complex circumstances, multiple faults, large investment and even being difficult to reach the target layer for some wells were experienced. Since 2005, based on Sinopec’s ultra-deep exploration and development in northeastern Sichuan Basin and Tarim Basin, through strengthening lab simulation and theoretical analysis, 7 innovation achievements are produced as follows: ①detailed description technology of drilling geological environmental factors with multi information comprehensive inversion;②well structure optimization design based on risk evaluation of drilling engineering;③technology of gas drilling with oversized hole and fluid conversion;④efficient rock breaking tools and the supporting technology;⑤ultra-deep horizontal well trajectory control technology based on conventional guided drilling;⑥ultra-high temperature and ultra-high density drilling fluid technology; ⑦cementing technology of preventing gas channeling with high acid rubber latex for gas field. The field tests and industrial application are carried out on these achievements and the supporting ultra-deep well drilling technologies are formed, which makes China’s ultra-deep well drilling technology step into advanced world level.

      Abstract:As a new technology, the directional drilling for underground coal mine has been applied in fields such as gas drainage, water control, geological exploration and accurate drilling borehole engineering. By the popularization and application in more than 30 mines of China, the horizontal directional drilling technology and the equipments for underground coal mine have been gradually improved with new progress; ZDY12000LD directional drilling rig, MWD by mud pulse transmission system, geo-steering drilling device and compound directional drilling technology have been formed. 1881m directional drilling borehole in coal seam and 1026m directional drilling borehole in rock were completed in underground coalmine, which show the advantages of ZDY12000LD rig in large power, high capability in drilling and accident processing and high measurement accuracy of MWD by mud pulse transmission system, by the combination of directional drilling with down-hole motor and rotary drilling technologies, the high drilling efficiency is achieved with smooth borehole wall, less cuttings and small borehole curvature.

      Abstract:Relying on the geotechnical engineering investigation project for a new assembly line of Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., by the application of KG940A high air pressure and crawler DTH drill and the use of pneumatic DTH drilling with casing combined with air positive circulation slag discharging, a set of new methods of dry-boring is explored according to complex broken overburden layer, which makes significant improvement in drilling efficiency and drilling quality.

    • Drilling Construction Technology Used in Deep Overburden Layer of Luanhe Ancient Channel in Hebei

      Abstract:The construction situation of Lujiatuo iron ore mine area is deep overburden layers in Quaternary and Tertiary systems, broken bedrock strata and accidents caused by collapse, sticking, diameter shrinkage and water leakage. The new special soil coring tool was selected for overburden layer drilling combined with conventional bit and special diamond bit; and wire-line core drilling technology was used for bedrock drilling with combination of enlarged borehole diameter, wall protection with high quality chemical grout and thief zone plugging. At the same time, mud performance adjustment and maintenance were strengthened, monitoring and adjusting of drilling pressure, drilling speed and pump amount were enhanced. The original designed hole depth was 1300m and the actual depth is 1408m with borehole curvature of 29°, the average coring rate is up to 80% in overburden layer, 100% in both rock formation and ore bed, the hole completion cycle is 75 days. The requirements of the design program are met and the borehole is evaluated as high-quality one.

    • Application of Sulfonated Asphalt Drilling Fluid in Geothermal Exploration Well of Guizhou

      Abstract:The geothermal exploration construction in Guizhou is difficult because of karst fracture formations and complex strata there. According to the characteristics of sulfonated asphalt, the analysis was made on the wall-protection and anti-collapse mechanism of sulfonated asphalt drilling fluid to determine its rational formula, and the production application was also made in ZK2 of geothermal water resource whole-mount exploration in west part of Tongling in Guizhou. In the actual construction inspection, it is proved that sulfonated asphalt drilling fluid has good anti-collapse effect with higher drilling efficiency. The rational suggestions are put forward to the use of sulfonated asphalt drilling fluid in geothermal well construction based on the field application experience.

    • Application of Hydraulic Constant Torque Rotary Percussion Tool in Dashen16 Well of Daqing Oilfield

      Abstract:Due to the hard and strong abrasive rocks in deep formation of Daqing oil field, the use of conventional drilling method with single bit means low run footage, short bit life and low ROP; these are effectively improved by the application of hydraulic constant torque rotary percussion tool. The field tests in Dashen 16 well prove that by the use of hydraulic constant torque rotary percussion tool, the rock breaking mode of bit can be attached with mechanical impact and high pressure hydraulic pulse on the basis of shearing, and the shearing efficiency of PDC bit can be greatly improved, which is an effective means to improve ROP of deep well drilling.

    • Preliminary Study on Residual Sress in High Grade Steel Wire-line Coring Pipe

      Abstract:There is a viewpoint saying that the residual stress in pipe is one of the causes of non-normal damage of wire-line coring drill pipe, based on which, the detection comparison was made on the residual stress in the manufacturing process of cold drawing wire-line coring pipe with different heat treatment and straightening processes by ring cutting method. The residual stress produced in cold drawing pipe manufacturing process is thought to be in existence but is controllable. With appropriate manufacturing measures, the residual stress in high grade alloy pipe can be controlled in an acceptable range, and rare qualified pipes break occur due to the residual stress. The pipe breaking accident should be reduced by paying attention in pipe manufacturing, drill pipe processing and the field application.

    • Research on Coring Inner-tube of Flexible Retractable and Folable Pipe(Bag)and the Application

      Abstract:A coring inner-tube of flexible retractable and foldable pipe (bag) has been developed to solve the problems caused by rigid coring tube, such as core disturbance, moisture retention and low core recovery. By the comparison of influence on coring effects by the flexible coring tube with axial and radial folding patterns, the axial one was selected. The flexible coring inner-tube is made of polyethylene plastic with glass wool, and employs the drilling technology with ancillary techniques of high matrix bottom jet bit and single way claw spring cover. In the tests of 4 typical drilling projects, the sample disturbance are lower than 5%, moisture retention higher than 95% and core recovery reaching 80%~95%. The practices show that by the triple-tube equipped with coring inner-tube of flexible retractable and foldable pipe (bag), special rock samples and the undisturbed samples can keep high fidelities and high recovery with perfect coring effect.

      Abstract:The key development technology of nautical depth is how to use the silty back silting layer under current water depth as navigation channel in order to increase the navigation depth and reduce the maintenance costs. The sampling technique used in silty harbor or the silt characteristics nautical back silting layer is mainly devided into categries of non-contact detection and contact sampling both in China and abroad. At present, the non-contact detection technique represented by Dutch Silas system has been mature, which has been widely applied worldwide; while there is no significant breakthrough in contact detection technique in back silting layer. In engineering practice, the detection data by non-contact technique should be verified. It is necessary to develop a stable and efficient sampler for undisturbed silty soil sampling and the contact sampling technique should be enriched and perfected.

      Abstract:The drill sliding accident was handled by drill rod section-cutting with hydraulic cutters and fishing with retrievable spear in 47ZK3 of Luanjiahe gold mine in Zhaoyuan of Shandong. With the engineering case, the paper introduces the usage of hydraulic-pressure cutters and retrievable fishing spear, and presents the comparison between this and conventional fishing by reverse-thread drill rod and screwing fishing.

      Abstract:According to the characteristics of long and large diameter pile to be pulled out in the open-excavated tunnel (pile-puling interval) in Zhengzhou, the force on pile body and the pile-pulling technology are studied. Through the analysis and calculation on failure mode of soil around the pile and tensile strength of the pile body in pulling-out process, the effective method of resistance reduction is selected to be applied in the engineering practice, and good results are achieved. The solutions of pile body partial enlarged, too large pile lateral friction and pile broken in pile pulling-out operation are summed up, which can serve as reference for the same projects.

    • Study on Rod Diameter Conversion in Hammering Numbers of DPH

      Abstract:φ42mm rod is regulated for DPH in most standards of China, but a lot of engineering investigation units tend to use φ50mm rods based on the consideration of construction convenience factors. By the analysis on the testing points of DPH and the influencing factors, based on the revision coefficient table of DPH, the derived coefficient of rod diameter conversion is 0.89, which has been verified by a waterway engineering instance in island reefs of Hainan. The results show that for the coral clast formation of buried depth less than 12m in the same geomorphic units, the ratio of hammering numbers of DPH with φ42 drill pipe and DPH with φ50 drill pipe is 0.875, which is in close agreement with the derived results.

      Abstract:Because of the characteristics of safety, environmental protection, economy and high efficiency, the mine curtain grouting has been successfully implemented in mines with good effects of water plugging. While in strong karst area, the water plugging effect will be directly influenced by the dynamic water grouting technique, especially by the plugging quality of main water channel, which is the key factor affecting the success of the project. With the background of a curtain grouting engineering in Fankou lead-zinc mine of Guangzhou, the paper discusses the grouting plugging technology for main water channel in strong karst area.

      Abstract:Through the study on multilevel, multivariate in the evaluation on the quality of geological investigation drilling for railway engineering, the comprehensive evaluation index system hierarchical model is established for investigation drilling quality of railway engineering, the weight of each affecting factors is determined by AHP and the drilling quality of railway engineering is judged on the basis of the basic principles fuzzy mathematics. In the evaluation modle, the quantitative and non quantitative indexes which affect the drilling operation quality of railway engineering are comprehensively taken into account; taking the hole formation conditions, drilling record, situ measurement as basic criterion layer, based on the situ jugdement, each index layer under criterion layer is determined, which is then converted into membership matrix according to evaluation grading standards, the comprehensive evaluation on drilling quality grade for railway engineering is made by fuzzy mathematics principle.
