    • Role and Position of “Drilling ” in Livelihood Geology

      Abstract:The “drilling ” is presented on the basis of the “internet ” idea, which involves various fields in economic society. Under the new normal of equal stress on resources and environment with geological survey investment decreasing year by year, new bottleneck appears for the traditional geological drilling work. The future drilling project should be combined with society development and livelihood geological work, drilling development model should be innovated in geothermal and other new energy exploration, medical geology survey and evaluation, disaster geology survey and monitoring and urban underground space development and utilization to optimize the combination of drilling technologies and the research on compound drilling technology to achieve convenient, high efficiency, low energy consumption and high quality drilling. Combined with the current situation, the idea of “drilling ” and the main works of livelihood geology are introduced in this paper, and the suggestions are put forward for the related flied and development direction of future drilling engineering.

    • Research and Application of Drilling Instead of Trenching Technology

      Abstract:Traditional surface exposure methods, such as trenching and exploratory shaft sinking, have their own limitations and are harmful to the environment. The paper puts forward the technical route of research on drilling instead of trenching and summarizes the shallow drilling methods and drilling arrangement technology; and at the same time, explores the three-dimensional geology modeling based on borehole data. The technical achievement of drilling instead of trenching is popularized and applied in Tibet and some other places and is verified to be feasible and effective.

      Abstract:Cuttings are important evidence for the formation research, and there is a significant correlation between rock drillability and fractal dimension in Lab, but the geometric characteristics and particle size distribution of cuttings are affected by multiple factors during the drilling process, particle size distribution is different for cuttings obtained under different conditions. According to fractal theory, the cuttings of different engineering and geological conditions are analyzed to sum up the influence and influence degree of various factors to fractal law of cuttings. The results show that the cuttings particle size distribution has good fractal features; the cuttings fractal dimension is conform to the real drilling situation; and equiprobable breaking Pc is one of the parameters to judge drilling efficiency, Pc value can be reduced by adjusting drilling parameters to improve ROP.

    • Practice of Artificial Deflecting Method in Geological Core Drilling

      Abstract:In the process of core drilling, the artificial deflecting method is an effective means to make up coring for core falling off and bypass obstacles while drilling tool breaking-off and drill bit being buried or burned. For shallow borehole, the inclined section is just under the stepped-diameter position, the stable upper hole wall is convenient for reaming and casing putting, it is advisable to choose the different diameter eccentric wedge for artificial deflecting; for deep borehole, due to the unchangeablehole diameter and hard rocks in deflecting section, the same diameter eccentric wedge is the proper selection for artificial deflecting; for deep borehole with low-hardness rocks in deflecting section, such as coal seam in coal measure strata and mudstone, etc., the same diameter natural deflecting is optimum. When choosing eccentric wedge, the rational determination of its length, deflection angle degree and the diameter of deviation groove, as well as proper operation are the key points; for the same diameter natural deflecting, the determination of the cement slurry filling section, solidification strength of cement slurry and drilling parameters are the key factors.

      Abstract:Based on geological survey, salt well technical parameters and requirements, drilling equipments, drilling technology and other aspects in the brine well in Guyuan of Ningxia, this paper introduces the brine well construction, focuses on the key technical measures of drilling fluid, cementing and butt construction, etc. and lists the outstanding issues appeared in the construction, such as clay mixing into drilling fluid, gypsum-containing shale necking collapse and sand setting in high angle wells segment, the processing methods are analyzed and the experiences and lessons of brine well construction are summarized.

      Abstract:Aiming at the low prediction accuracy on formation pore pressure, high requirements of casing program design, abnormal pressure at low temperature and narrow security window of drilling fluid density in deepwater drilling process in Southeast Hainan basin, through the regional formation pressure prediction method and based on the research and practice of key technologies of casing program optimization design, drilling fluid technology optimization, surface casing cementing technology optimization and annular trapped pressure control technology, a set of key technology system suitable for deepwater drilling in this region is formed and has been successfully applied in deep wells drilling operation in recent years with high drilling efficiency, low accident rate and reasonable cost.

    • Optimization and Application of the Directional Well Drilling Procedure Design in Rumaila Oilfield

      Abstract:In order to reduce the drag and torque in directional well drilling and increase the ROP, according to the geological conditions and drilling difficulties, a regression calculation model of borehole trajectory and rock drillability was established. By the optimization of 5-section trajectory sections, the optimal hole curvature 2.85°~3°/30m and maximum well angle 30°were determined, the intermediate casing was put down to sadi layer 8~15m to ensure the completion of S-shaped directional well. As the result, the friction coefficient in the open hole is reduced from 0.52 to 0.35 and casing internal friction coefficient from 0.35 to 0.28. The quick wearing of conventional PDC bit and low ROP of cone bit are solved by optimization test on KM533 composite bit in RUS soft and hard interlayer. Based on the technical research and application, the actual top driven torque of Rumaila S-shaped directional well is lowered by more than 30%, the mumber of used bits is reduced by 2.7 and the drilling period is decreased by 18.58d.

      Abstract:With the development of oil and gas exploration and the increase of highly deviated wells and horizontal wells in recent years, the displacement is getting longer and longer for directional well and horizontal well, drifting for blocking is frequent, low one-time success ratio of completion logging affects well construction period. Though the analysis on the causes of blocking in completion logging in some directional and horizontal wells of west and northeast Sichuan, the countermeasures of “strong inhibition-cross linking-wall consolidation” and high-efficient lubrication slug technologies are put forward mainly for drilling fluid to improve one-time success ratio of completion logging. Field application shows that these technical countermeasures offer a new way to solve the blocking in logging.

    • Drilling Technology of L26-P25 Horizontal Well with Long Horizontal Section

      Abstract:In order to develop the low permeability reservoir, the horizontal well with L26-P25 long horizontal section was deployed in Long 26 block of Daqing oil field. Based on the introduction of casing program and design features of well trajectory profile, the difficulties in drilling construction are analyzed and the technical measures adopted in this well are elaborated in detail in well trajectory control, rotary geo-steering drilling technology, friction and torque monitoring, hole cleaning and some other aspects. L26-P25 long well is 4045.00m in total depth and 2033.00m in horizontal section; all the indexes meet the design requirements. It is a record of the longest horizontal section in horizontal well with water-base drilling fluid in Daqing oilfield, the construction experience is accumulated for the same type horizontal well with long horizontal section in future.

    • Application of Optimized Cementing Technology in Rumaila Oil Field

      Abstract:Because of low fracturing pressure in Rumaila formation, leakage is easy to happen in the intermediate casing cementing procedure; the shale development in production layer leads to irregular chambering and shrunk holes; cementing displacement efficiency is low and it is difficult to guarantee cementing quality. In late well cementing construction, the formation characteristics are analyzed starting from several key factors that affect the cementing quality to optimize the technical measures of plugging and by cementing design software to optimize the number of casing centralizer; through indoor test, inhibited weighted drilling fluid is optimized to control and adjust the performance parameters of drilling fluid used in unstable shale layer, the API fluid loss is controlled at 4mL and density 1.35g/cm3. A set of comprehensive cementing technology is formed, the cementing qualified ratio reaches to more than 80% in field tests.

      Abstract:Hydrological observation hole used to be bored on the ground in Zhengzhou coal mine area. Because of the high costs of construction and maintenance, underground hydrological observation hole is popularized gradually in recent years. High pressure water exploration and drainage was listed in the research subject of key technology of flood prevention and equipment by SACSS in 2013. As downhole drilling technology and equipment are becoming more and more mature, especially some technological difficulties are overcome one after another, such as special underground water48 exploration and drainage drill, orifice blowout prevention device, drilling with casing technology in soft and fractured formation and effective directional drilling technology in hard rocks, intrinsically safe operation has been realized for underground drilling in coal mine. In view of the particularity of underground coal mine drilling, the paper mainly expounds the difficulties and solutions in the construction of hydrological observation holes, including equipment selection, hole positioning, DTH drilling with casing in fractured formation; cementing and well control & blowout prevention, as well as acidification well washing after completion and so on.

At present, air drilling technology is continuously improved and widely used in drilling construction. The paper briefly introduces the application situation of air drilling technology, describes the main equipments and technological process and emphasizes the advantages and disadvantages of air drilling. The application effects are obvious in some parts of the eastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, where there are hard basalt rocks and severe lost circulation.

    • Research on Drilling Design and Trajectory Dynamic Monitoring System

      Abstract:Computer aided borehole design and trajectory monitoring are necessary conditions for the information and digital development of drilling engineering. Thus, the further research on the application of computer aided design technology is important for drilling engineering in theory, technology and methods. The drilling design and trajectory dynamic monitoring system is mainly based on the design of drilling trajectory control parameters in directional drilling engineering and drilling trajectory analysis monitoring, including drawing of 2D graphics and 3D graphics of drilling trajectory and module functions of drilling engineering technical documents automatically generating, such as comprehensive charts, drilling geological design documents and drilling geological histograms, and so on. Drilling design and trajectory monitoring can be automatically made by powerful functions of computer in data processing and computing, graphics drawing and generation and by software programming and data entry. This system software is not only suitable for directional drilling engineering design and process monitoring, but also can be used as a component part of electronic files and digital management system of drilling engineering. This software system has been tested in the engineering practice, the desired application effects are achieved.

      Abstract:Compared with conventional PDM, uniform-thickness PDM has wider application range with long service life and high torque. The related research on uniform-thickness PDM is still in the stage of theoretical analysis. This paper introduces the theoretical performance and the actual working performance of PDM, analyzes the performance characteristics of 89mm uniform-thickness PDM based on the laboratory tests and field experiments and establishes the calculation models of volumetric efficiency, speed, torque and power, the results verify the accuracy of the theoretical performance of the uniform-thickness PDM, which could provide guidance and reference for uniform-thickness PDM design and drilling tools selection.

      Abstract:In the process of designing and using the geological drilling tools, strength theory or yield criterion is required to analyze drilling equipment and tool failure problems. In order to help people understand Mises yield criterion (stress), this paper introduces theoretically the relationship between the Mises yield criterion and the distortional strain energy density criterion, it is revealed that the essence of Mises yield criterions is the fourth strength theory. In the elasto-plastic range, Mises yield criterion unifies the first strength theory of the single tension or compression state, the third and fourth strength theory of complex stress state. Thus Mises yield criterion is more widely used in the finite element numerical analysis.

    • Hydration Mechanism of Viscosity Time-varying Slurry and the Application in the Treatment of Water Gushing in Excavation

      Abstract:In order to study the hydration mechanism and the performance of SJP time-varying slurry with the admixture 1#(cellulose-based solvents), 2#(synthesis of silicon calcium early strength agent)and 3#(amides stabilizer), by referring the temperature and the rate of temperature variation, the hydration heat contrast test between SJP time-varying slurry and neat cement paste was made and the hydration and hardening models of SJP time-varying slurry were constructed to reveal the mechanism of admixture 2# and 3# coordinating the cement to the secondary hydration and the basis of admixture content. By the contrast test, it is proved that SJP time-varying slurry has good viscosity time variation, good initial fluidity, good grouting property and controllable initial setting time and final setting time etc., the grouting effects should be superior to the traditional cement slurry in the strata where porosity and fracture develop and in dynamic water condition, SJP grouting material has been successfully applied in dealing with water gushing in excavation.

      Abstract:The proposed project in this paper is mountain slope foundation engineering, the collapsible subsoil should be eliminated and the characteristic value of bearing capacity fak≥130kPa is required. In addition, slope stability and permanent reinforcement should be taken into account. The project was deeply analyzed and concept design method was used to preview the design. As complex process, difficult practice and some hidden troubles for permanent use were found, the project was re-analyzed, and it was suggested to take the socket pile as the foundation in stead of the original foundation treatment measures.

      Abstract:Because of the thick soft silt layer in upper part of the borehole, a mud pool should be set up at the mouth in the construction of rotary bored grouting pile to keep the mud surface height in the borehole. The mud performance is the foundation to ensure the drilling quality, the performance indicators monitoring should be strengthened in the construction, and mud purifying device may be used if necessary. Reasonable selection of steel protective pipe embedding length and drilling parameters can not only ensure the construction quality, but also can greatly reduce the construction cost.

      Abstract:Because of good adaptability and speedy construction, rotary holing cast-in-place piles have been widely used in engineering fields, but the disadvantages of difficult sediment control and inconvenience for construction in areas with large-size gravels restrict its development. Based on the engineering case of BOECD, the key points of construction technology of post grouting for rotary holing cast-in-place pile by wet operation are firstly analyzed; then grouting capacity, grouting pressure and slurry amount of post grouting are summarized; finally, some suggestions are put forward for the engineering problems such as hole bottom sediment control and fill section construction process, which may be helpful to the similar projects in the future.

      Abstract:In the directional drilling construction of D1219mm large diameter pipeline, the reaming process parameters should be reasonably determined while drilling through complex formations of clay, sand and rock, such as the mud displacement and the number of reamer nozzles. Taking an example of Jushui River HDD crossing engineering, according to the inadequate mud displacement and unreasonable reamer selection in directional drilling construction, the related drilling engineering formulas were referred to verify the mud displacement calculation in directional drilling crossing engineering and provide the calculation formula of reamer’s nozzle number for crossing construction specification. The required maximum mud pressure was calculated used Delft equation in directional drilling construction, the calculation results were applied in directional drilling construction in Jushui River, which a reference for future similar design and construction.
