Abstract:With the exploration of deep-sea resources increasing gradually, drilling is facing new difficulties. The drill string compensation system is applied to stabilize the floating drilling platform or drilling ship. The system can keep the drill string in a relative static position and protect it from jolting caused by wind and waves, thus allowing the drill bit in constant contact with the hole-bottom, and the bit pressure basically constant. It plays a role in protecting drilling tools and improving drilling efficiency. This paper introduces the advances of the compensation systems, as well as the structure, principle, advantages and disadvantages of various systems. Field cases and data are presented to demonstrate the benefits of the compensation system in improving drilling rates and core recovery.

Abstract:In order to ensure the sealing function of expandable liners in φ120mm boreholes, based on the proper design of an “8” shape section corrugated pipe, the hydrodynamic expansion forming process of the corrugated pipe with different wall thickness and materials is simulated by using the finite element theory, and the indoor hydrodynamic expansion test is carried out. Under the condition of satisfying the extrusion strength and internal pressure strength, the thinner the wall thickness of liners, the better the expansion effect; the “8” shape section liners suitable for 120 mm boreholes should meet the following conditions: yield ratio≤0.6, elongation≥25%, tensile strength σb≥410MPa; the minimum diameter of the liners after expansion can meet the requirements of subsequent mechanical expansion, and the maximum expansion pressure is 13.6MPa, which meets the requirements of drilling site operation. This provides technical support for field test of the liners.

Abstract:In recent years, soft computing technology has been used as an alternative statistical tool. The artificial neural network (ANN) is used to develop predictive models to estimate the required parameters. In this study, a neural network model for predicting rock properties was established by using some of the drilling parameters (pressure, thrust, bit diameter, penetration) and the resulting sound level during the impact drilling process. Data generated in the laboratory was used for the development of neural network models that predict rock properties such as uniaxial compressive strength, wear resistance, tensile strength, and Schmidt rebound number. The models were tested with various predictive performance indicators and the results show that the artificial neural network model is suitable for the prediction of rock properties.

Abstract:The northwest Jiaodong Hongbu gold deposit located in the middle Jiaojia gold field, but not a typical Jiaojia style gold mine, is a fine net vein gold deposit developed in the granite (diorite) on both sides of the fault zone and controlled by dense cleavage and fractures. Because it is controlled by three major faults, namely the main Jiaojia fault, the Hexi fault and the Houjia fault of the Jiaojia fault system, the geological structure encountered in drilling is extremely complex. In this paper, application of chemical gel plugging agents in Borehole-127ZK1, the deepest hole in the mine is described.

Abstract:Geothermal Well GYx in Gaoyang Geothermal Field was a three-section well with a completion depth of 3920m. Neogene and Paleogene formation was drilled in this well, and the target layer was Wumishan Group of Jixian System. Drilling operations in the formation was difficult due to many problems such as sticking, leakage, chipping, collapsing, and even occurrence of oil and gas layers. Preparation of proper drilling fluids were very critical and difficult, especially for the second section drilling. Polymer mud with the macromolecule coating agent and silica-based anti-collapsed mud with high temperature resistance were adopted for the drilling fluid, and the high temperature-resistant drilling material was used. The density of the drilling fluid was controlled according to the formation pressure. The shale inhibitor was used to prevent shale hydration and swelling, and to control the water loss of the drilling fluid as well. The mud lubricity was improved by adding some lubricating agent. The four stage solid control equipment was used to clean the drilling fluid. By taking these measures, the drilling fluid adopted in Well GYx provided good performance, which had eliminated the drilling risks; meanwhile the penetration rate was greatly improved.

Abstract:Based on Ningbo rail transit Line 4 geotechnical investigation project, comparative lab-testing was conducted on soft soil taken at two different diameters (D= 75mm, D= 100mm)with the open thin wall samplers commonly used in soft soil areas. Based the test results, the differences of indexes of physical and mechanical properties of soft soil at two sampling diameters and their mechanism were analyzed; the additional volumetric strain method was used to analyze and evaluate the disturbance of soil samples at two different diameters. The results show that the water content and void ratio of the soil sample with the diameter of 75mm reduced to a certain extent with the reduction range of 9% compared with the soil sampler with the diameter of 100mm; the density, compressive modulus and shear strength index increased to a certain extent with the increasing of 2% to 21%; the average volumetric strain of soil samples was 6.4% and 6.6% respectively, and the degree of disturbance was very large; the soil samples which were obtained by the large diameter soil sampler was closer to the actual properties of soft soil than the small diameter soil sampler.

Abstract:Taking the pile foundation project of the Dean market in Jiujiang area of Jiangxi Province as an example, this paper introduces the application and key technical measures of rotary drilled cast-in-place piles with air-lift reverse circulation hole cleaning and the vibration hammer for setting steel casing. The rotary drilling rig has a high efficiency in the construction of pile foundation, but control of settlements is difficult in the loose and collapsible stratums; therefore, it is the key to the success of the project to solve the problem with the settlements. Practice has proved that the combination of the vibrating hammer for setting casing to protect collapsible formation with the air lifting reverse circulation for cleaning can completely solve the problem of excessive settlements at the bottom of the hole.

Abstract:Bolting and shotcreting are commonly used in slope treatment. The retaining surface is made of plain concrete or reinforced concrete, which consumes a large amount of building materials and is expensive. Gray concrete is not in harmony with the surrounding environment, because highway slopes often require environmental awareness. In this paper, a new ecological slope compound retaining form of “bolting + geo-grid slope + green spray on borrowed soil” was presented and used over an experimental section. Calculation indicated that the slope stability and the anchor bearing capacity all meet the design requirements. The test section anchor rod adopted the GFRP anchor rod, the area is 100m2. After construction, compared with the traditional soil nailing wall concrete surface layer and lattice beam anchor bar retaining form, this form has the advantage of quick construction, economic application, which can be used to reinforce the slope and have green environmental protection function.

Abstract:The effect of the content changes of WC, YG8 and 663-Cu on the bending strength of the WC based composite is investigated by the mixture design. The content changes of the three components have significant effects on the bending strength of the matrix with or without diamonds, and the effects exhibits linear model relations. The related regression equations are obtained, and the order of the effect of the results is as follows: YG8>WC>663-Cu. Besides, the content changes have less effects on the bending strength loss rate, indicating that the diamond retention cannot be effectively improved by adjusting the proportion of WC, YG8 and 663-Cu in WC based composites.
